While this Snickers might be named after the famous candy bar, the Snickers candy bar is actually named after the favorite horse of the company’s owners, the Mars family! Snickers is a four to five-year-old Beagle mix who arrived as a stray at the Onslow County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on May 28th. Snickers had a microchip, but when the shelter contacted her owners, they said she ran away two years ago, they have since moved, and they no longer wanted her. Unfortunately, Snickers also tested heartworm positive. After two months without any rescue or adopter interest and the shelter overflowing, her time was about up.
On July 28th, Jan Grafton with Juliet’s House Animal Rescue in North Carolina contacted RADAR. If we would help with the heartworm treatment costs, her rescue would take Snickers. We agreed and Snickers was safe! With the heartworm treatment medication on backorder, Snickers had to wait until September 30th to get her treatment done.
“Sweet Snickers is a wonderful dog,” Jan told us. “Everyone who meets her likes her! Snickers is quiet and calm. She seems to get along with everyone: kids, other dogs and cats too. She is a terrific companion who likes to play and cuddle. She really is a super terrific dog!” Click here to view more photos of Snickers.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Snickers, totaling $112.
