One look at Socks and you’ll see how he got his name! It looks like he’s wearing white socks, which are in perfect contrast to his grey brindled coat. Three-year-old Socks, a Bully Breed mix, was surrendered by his owners to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on March 11th. His older owners had health issues and could no longer care for Socks. He had lived outside his entire life. The staff really loved this dog, but they knew that his testing heartworm positive put his life in jeopardy.

On April 29th, RADAR reached out to Susan Blakeney, our liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, to help with Socks. We provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs as an incentive for a rescue to pull him. Almost immediately, Destiny Shell, who runs Dogs of Destiny, the Virginia chapter of the Lake Charles Pit Bull Rescue, agreed to take Socks! His heartworm treatment took place on May 2nd.

“Socks is an energetic guy,” we were told, “who would love an active owner who could give him lots of exercise or take him jogging or hiking. Socks is hoping that there is a loving forever home who can help him further his education about how to walk on a leash and be an inside dog. He is truly deserving of a chance because he is such a kindhearted boy. He will repay you with his wagging tail and some happy kisses!” To see more photos of Socks, click here.

RADAR paid all $264 of the heartworm treatment costs for Socks.
