Things were far from sparkling for Sparkle. This four-year-old Pit Bull mix was surrendered by her owner on June 22nd to the Bertie County Humane Society shelter in North Carolina. Unfortunately, Sparkle tested heartworm positive, which is always a big negative for finding an adopter or rescue because of the cost of the treatment.

On July 13th Dee Dee Smith of HGBSL Rescue in North Carolina requested RADAR’s help. The rescue was interested in taking Sparkle if we could assist with her heartworm treatment. We agreed and Sparkle was safely out of the shelter on July 16th and off to a foster home. Sparkle completed her heartworm treatment on October 8th.

“Sparkle is a very laid back, sweet girl,” Dee Dee shared with us. “She loves all kids, gets along great with other dogs and cats. She doesn’t even bother the foster’s hamster! She loves to take short walks, and does well on a leash. Sparkle is a real cuddle bug. She is very loving and has a gentle spirit!” To view more photos of Sparkle, click here.

RADAR paid $250 towards Sparkle’s heartworm treatment costs.
