Spot, who quickly captured the hearts of the shelter staff, was affectionately known as “Mr. Congeniality!” Approximately four years old and a Bully Breed blend, Spot was surrendered by his owners on March 4th, to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. “Spot is a friendly, waggy-tailed guy who is calm and polite.” Despite rave reviews like this, Spot languished at the shelter. Part of the problem was his breed mix, and he had heartworms. On July 6th, Spot’s name was put on the shelter’s list of dogs who could be euthanized at any time after July 14th.
On July 7th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for ur help with Spot. We provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment cost as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On August 1st, Virginia Paws for Pits stepped up to take Spot! He received his heartworm treatment on August 8th.
Susan had this to share with us about Spot: “He’s a delightful character who would be great with a seasoned dog owner. His strength and high energy may be a bit too much for young children, but he would be perfect for those on the run. He adjusted very quickly to being on the leash and displayed a high propensity for quick learning. He likes long walks, human touch and lots of compliments! He is an awesome dog! RADAR paid all of Spot’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $327.
