Spunk

Spunk, a one- to two-year-old Bully Breed mix with tall bat-like ears, is never in a funk! This friendly and affectionate fellow arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on August 6th. His past is a mystery but it is known that he must have not received heartworm preventive as he tested positive for heartworms. Spunk showed that he is a playful fellow who likes everyone and enjoys belly rubs. Sadly, Spunk landed on the urgent list for four weeks straight, as this otherwise quite adoptable or rescuable dog seemed unwanted due to his heartworm status and breed.

Caring for Creatures in Virginia wanted to rescue Spunk, but only if his heartworms were treated first. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked RADAR for our help on December 7th, and we agreed to pay for Spunk’s heartworm treatment. Spunk had to wait a few weeks for his treatment as his lungs didn’t sound good to the veterinarian. Spunk was finally able to have his heartworm treatments on February 4th and March 3rd.

Spunk is a medium-sized dog with a deep red coat. “Spunk’s idea of a cool party is to have some grassy areas to run and play around in!” Susan told us. “Kids that will enjoy some games of tag and playing with squeaky toys will surely make for an enhanced party experience. Spunk loves meeting other dogs and is very smart, alert and attentive to his person. He’s an affectionate, loving and very playful doggy who has just the right amount of puppy play left in his system to keep everyone in stitches and entertained!” Be sure to view more photos in Spunk’s gallery.

RADAR paid all of Spunk’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $403.
