Squirt

Little Squirt was a cartoon character for Squirt soda, and one of his lines is perfect for this dog: “Put a little Squirt in your life!” This six-year-old Chihuahua was found abandoned in a rental home on May 19th. He was taken to the Blount County Animal Center shelter in Tennessee. Squirt was scared and snippy when he first came to the shelter, and hated his kennel. But being a fairly smart guy, he managed to end up with his own room! Usually a small dog like Squirt would get adopted or rescued quickly, but being older and heartworm positive limited his chances.

On June 3rd, Kristin Baksa, the shelter’s rescue coordinator, requested RADAR’s help for Squirt. “Although he had some trust issues with us at first, he bonded quickly with our volunteers,” Kristin told us, “This poor guy thinks he is going to be abandoned again. Once his heartworm treatment is complete we hope to find him a home where he can be a constant companion.” We agreed to assist, and Squirt had his heartworm treatment done on June 7th and 8th.

“He loves people, and wants to be with them all the time,” Kristin shared with us. “Squirt has a very pitiful cry when left alone. His foster is doing a great job helping him get over that anxiety. He is fine with other dogs and cats, and even birds, but really just prefers people. Gotta love this little guy!” To view more photos of Squirt, click here.

RADAR paid all $217 of the heartworm treatment costs for Squirt.
