Stephanie, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever-Bully Breed mix, had been fed by some kind folks for over a month when she was wandering near their home. Despite being posted on Facebook as found, no one had claimed her. When she showed up one day with a hurt paw, the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina was called for help. Stephanie entered the shelter on April 19th. Stephanie’s hurt paw was treated, but the heartworms in her heart were too costly for a rural shelter to treat.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for RADAR’s help on May 30th. One Life to Live Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to add Stephanie to their rescue but needed her heartworms treated first. We agreed to help, and Stephanie had her heartworm treatment on June 2nd.
“Stephanie is such a sweetheart,” we were told. “She is very affectionate, cuddly and loves attention. She does great on walks and just wants to be with someone all the time. She does like to play but doesn’t get too rambunctious or excited. She also seems to be potty trained. Stephanie would be a great dog for anyone.” Be sure to view more photos in Stephanie’s gallery.
RADAR paid all $290 of the heartworm treatment costs for Stephanie.
UPDATE! All funds for Stephanie have been raised! Thank you!
While RADAR is no longer asking for donations for our nonprofit, we ask that you check out some of our rescue partners and make a donation to one or more of them.
