Stevie, a five-year-old Beagle-Collie mix, has a dramatic and sad tale to tell, but a happy future in store. Stevie was tied up outside when his owner’s house caught fire. Tragically, his owner died in the fire, but Stevie was far enough away from the house that he survived. This is one of the few times when being tied outside was a good thing for a dog. Stevie was taken to the Johnson County Animal Shelter in Kentucky on March 29th. Not surprising for a dog who lived outside, Stevie tested positive for heartworms. He also had lots of hair loss from flea dermatitis. Stevie’s whole word had changed and he hoped someone was out there for him.
Julia Altman, of Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania, wanted to step up for Stevie when she heard his story, but needed help with the cost of his heartworm treatment. She contacted RADAR on April 14th, asking if we could fund Stevie’s heartworm treatment. We committed to Stevie’s future, and he had his back-to-back heartworm treatments on April 27th and 28th.
Stevie hasn’t let his tragedy change his loving nature. He is full of energy. Stevie is a hugger and a kisser, and loves treats and toys. The rescue has promised Stevie that they will find him a new home full of love and caring, as well as those treats and toys! Be sure to view more photos in Stevie’s gallery.
RADAR paid all $250 of the heartworm treatment costs for Stevie.
