Poor Stewie was in a stew! Estimated to be at least seven years old, Stewie is a Beagle mix who arrived as a stray at the Powhatan County Animal Control Shelter in Virginia on March 4th. The combination of Stewie being an older dog and having a large lump put his life in dire danger at this rural high-kill shelter. And indeed, his time was up on June 19th. Without a rescue commitment, Stewie would be euthanized.
Angels Among Us Animal Sanctuary in Pennsylvania contacted us on June 19th. The rescue was interested in pulling Stewie if we could assist. We immediately agreed and Stewie was safe! He left the shelter on June 23rd and went into a temporary foster home in Virginia. On June 26th, Stewie received his initial vetting, had the tumor removed and sent for a biopsy, and was neutered. The good news is that the biopsy indicated the tumor was benign. The vet also provided a very generous discount!
We were told this about Stewie by the rescue: “He is so playful and loves his toys. He does take meds for his arthritis, but he does just fine getting around and showing off!” Stewie, who was given that name by his temporary foster family’s children, was known as Scamp at the shelter. His foster Mom had this to share: “Stewie is playful and spunky. He is getting along with my dogs. He rides nicely in the car. He gave me a kiss and tried to cuddle as I typed this! Stewie’s awesome!” To view more photos of Stewie, click here.
RADAR paid all of Stewie’s tumor removal, biopsy and neutering costs totaling $225.
