There’s no need to sugarcoat Sugar’s story! Despite being part of an animal neglect case, Sugar is indeed as sweet as can be. This one to two-year-old Bully Breed mix was brought to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 8th by animal control. Despite being friendly and affectionate, she garnered no rescue interest for over three long months. Having heartworms did not help her plight.
On April 23rd, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted RADAR to see if we could help with Sugar. One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania spoke up for her, but only if she could have her heartworm treatment provided. We agreed to assist, and Sugar was safe at last! She got her treatment on May 1st.
We were provided with this report of Sugar’s time at an Earth Day event: “She was a super-polite, gentle-natured lady. She was so very, yes, sweet and engaging and with all the children who stopped by to say hello, and showed off her best manners in meeting other dogs. A lower energy, more chill girl, she’s your go-to choice for a loving, friendly companion who will happily accompany you anywhere or sack out with you on the sofa!” In fact, it was the word about how well Sugar did at the event that led the rescue to step up to take her! RADAR paid all of Sugar’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $232.
