Sweets is indeed a little sweetie! Two years old, Sweets is a Chihuahua-Dachshund mix known as a Chiweenie. On June 7th she arrived as a stray at the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina. Sweets was very frightened by all the sounds and stress of the shelter environment, but when the shelter staff took her into the office area, she relaxed and wanted to be a lap dog! Complicating matters for Sweets, she tested heartworm positive.
On June 9th Gretchen Kozen, RADAR’s liaison for Duplin County asked for our help for Sweets. Love Mutts Rescue in North Carolina was eager to pull Sweets and could even get her on transport to their rescue the next day, but needed help with the vetting and heartworm treatment costs. We agreed to assist, and Sweets was safe! She received her initial vetting, spaying and started her heartworm treatment medications on July 15th.
“Sweets really lives up to her name!” the rescue told us. “She gets along with other dogs, however she is definitely more of a people dog. She follows her foster mom everywhere and promptly jumps onto her lap whenever she can. Sweets is a very calm doggy. She loves to snuggle. Belly rubs are her absolute favorite, and she will paw for more when you stop!” Click here to view more photos of Sweets.
RADAR paid all of initial vetting, spaying and heartworm treatment medication costs for Sweets, totaling $246.
