What does this dog say to everyone who has helped him? “Tank you very much!” On February 17th, Tank, a two-year-old Pit Bull mix, was picked up as a stray by animal control. Tank was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Two big obstacles stood in the way of Tank’s potential rescue: he was a Pit Bull mix and heartworm positive. Without any adopter or rescue interest, Tank found himself on the shelter’s euthanasia list for April 9th.

On April 6th, as an incentive for a rescue to take Tank, RADAR provided an offer to cover his heartworm treatment costs. With only one day to spare, on April 8th, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania spoke up for Tank! He had his heartworm treatment done on April 29th.

With the shelter filled to capacity, a new plan was instituted to have heartworm treated dogs (without temporary foster homes) to be boarded while awaiting their rescue transport. This not only frees up much-needed space at the shelter, but also provides a much better environment for dogs recovering from their heartworm treatment. Angela Mumford, a RADAR and Darlington dog supporter, generously donated to cover Tank’s boarding costs.

We were told this about Tank: “His personality is peaceful, gentle and sweet. He interacts nicely with other dogs, whether they are boisterous or shy. He’s a skilled nuzzler and leash walker. He makes friends easily, and would be a big hit at a meet-and-greet event. Folks gravitate towards him with his appealing, smiling face and his slightly jiggling body. He welcomes hugs, and gives little kisses in return!” To view more photos of Tank, click here.

RADAR paid all the costs for Tank’s heartworm treatment ($240) and temporary boarding ($175).
