This Taz is no Tasmanian Devil like his cartoon-character namesake, Taz from Taz-Mania. A nine-year-old Shepherd mix, Taz and three other dogs from the same family were all surrendered to the Harnett County Animal Shelter in North Carolina on January 6th. The owner told the shelter that she was moving and could not take the dogs with her, so off to the shelter they went. And Taz, as a senior dog, was especially in grave danger at this overcrowded rural shelter.
On January 6th, Chris Leone, RADAR’s liaison for the Harnett County Animal Shelter, asked us to help with Taz. We provided an offer to help cover his vetting costs as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On January 12th, Adopt Me Animal Rescue in Wisconsin agreed to take Taz! During his initial vetting, Taz tested heartworm positive. The rescue opted to use our assistance to help with his heartworm treatment, which began on May 16th.
Taz has been loving family life with his foster, who had this to say about him: “He likes to play fetch and play with squeaky toys. Taz loves treats and all food! He’s great with other dogs. He also can settle down and sleeps fine on the couch. He has had no accidents in the house and is great with my kids. Of course, he’s big and doesn’t know his size, but he’s gentle!” To see more photos of Taz, click here.
RADAR paid $200 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Taz.
