The name Theo has different meanings depending on its origin. As a variant of the Germanic name Theobald, it loosely means brave. This Theo, a one- to two-year-old Bully Breed mix, had to be brave when he arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on March 2nd when he was brought in as a stray by animal control. Upon first glance, it was clear that Theo needed to gain some weight. A closer look brought some bad news, because Theo tested positive for heartworms.
On July 11th, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania expressed interest in pulling Theo from the shelter, but they needed help with the cost of his heartworm treatment. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society, reached out to RADAR to ask if we could help. We agreed to assist, and he was safe! Theo got his treatment on August 13th.
We were told this about Theo from his time at the shelter: “Theo is a handsome, strong boy, but he did not require long in the exercise area to ‘dial down’ before he was ready to meet other dogs. He plays gently and has a medium energy level. He politely greeted other dogs through the fence nose to nose, letting us know he was ready for official introductions!” Click here to view more photos of Theo.
RADAR paid all of Theo’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $336.
UPDATE! All funds for Theo have been raised! Thank you!
