Even being a Norse god couldn’t help Thor out of his predicament! This two to three-year-old Bully Breed mix was found as a stray by animal control on April 11th and taken to the Lee County Animal Shelter in South Carolina. Thor had the misfortune to be heartworm positive. The combination of being a Bully Breed mix and heartworm positive did not bode well for Thor.
On May 25th, Brandi Sowell, RADAR’s liaison with the Lee County Animal Shelter, reached out to us for help with Thor. He had been at the shelter for a month, and was placed on the shelter’s urgent list. Shelter staff continuously shuffled dogs to keep making room for Thor. We provided an offer to assist with his heartworm treatment to encourage a rescue to take him. Finally, on July 10th, Virginia Paws for Pits rescue committed to save Thor! He had his heartworm treatment done on July 18th and 19th.
Here is what a shelter volunteer had to say about Thor: “This guy was just so stunning and amazing, so he had to have a name fitting of his god-like status at the shelter. Thor walked into the shelter ready to set the world ablaze. His gorgeous coat, friendly nature, and his love for squeaky toys are just some of the characteristics that make this guy irresistible!” Click here to view more photos of Thor.
RADAR paid all of Thor’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $367.
