This Thumbelina sounds more like a ballerina! “This pretty girl walked merrily on the leash,” shelter staff told us, “but for one of our volunteers Thumbelina did several spinning backflips because she was so happy to spend some time out of her kennel.” Two years old and a Lab-Boxer blend, Thumbelina was picked up by animal control on May 31st and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. She was covered in ticks and, even worse, had heartworms. On August 4th her name was added to the shelter’s list of dogs who could be euthanized anytime after August 9th.
When One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Thumbelina, the only roadblock was money for her heartworm treatment. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, wasted no time in requesting our help, and we agreed. She received her heartworm treatment on August 8th.
We were told that “this beauty wants an active home where she can play! Thumbelina is friendly and social with everyone. She’s good with dogs and cats, men and women. And, one look at those gorgeous eyes and we think you’ll agree, she is not to be missed. She enjoys getting attention and affection, and just can’t wait to meet her new forever family!” Click here to view more photos of Thumbelina.
RADAR paid all of Thumbelina’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $284.
