Mary may have had a little lamb, but RADAR has a little lab whose fur is black as coal! Tikka is an approximately two-year-old petite Labrador Retriever mix. On December 11th she arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Already a recent mother, Tikka faced a bleak holiday season and a very uncertain fate. And all the more so testing positive for heartworm.
With Tikka’s time running out, the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society were able to save the day (and Tikka’s life) when the Every Dog’s Dream Rescue in New York offered to take Tikka if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered.
RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, asked for our assistance, and we agreed to cover the cost of Tikka’s heartworm treatment. It was just a coincidence, but her heartworm treatment took place on the most heart-filled day of the year: Valentine’s Day!
Susan had this to tell us about Tikka, “She’s fun and frisky, cuddly and carefree. Tikka is super, super sweet, and great with other dogs. This friendly little lady may be small in size, but gosh, she’s big in heart!” To view more photos of Tikka (taken by Susan), click here.
RADAR has paid all of Tikka’s $188 heartworm treatment bill.
