With the touching tale of Titus, he sure needed the touch of Midas! Estimated to be eight years old, this Boxer mix was found wandering as a stray by animal control on September 3rd. Titus was taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. He arrived at the shelter all skin and bones, tipping the scale at just 48 pounds. He should have been closer to 65-70 pounds. A huge shock collar was around his neck, dragging him down like a ball and chain. And, to add to his woes, Titus was heartworm positive.
On September 11th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us about Titus. One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania agreed to take Titus, but only if his heartworm treatment costs were covered. Despite an estimated cost of $300, we committed to assist.
Because of his age, underweight status and a high load of heartworms, the vet needed to proceed carefully. Titus first needed to gain some much-needed weight. On November 6th, after having x-rays taken, the vet administered the first of three heartworm treatments. Titus received his final two treatments on December 10th. As a result of his age and condition, the final bill was $421.
Susan told us this about Titus: “Folks who meet him, love him! He’s very low key and very lovable. He knows no strangers, and happily gets into the groove of things with new people and other pets. One of the best Boxers you will ever meet!” Click here to view more photos of Titus.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Titus, which totaled $421.
