As Obi-Wan Kenobi might have said to Tobie, “May the force be with you!” And poor Tobie needed all the good luck and good will the force could muster. Approximately two years old and a medley of breed mixes, Tobie was a homeless dog who had been wandering around in Stokes County, North Carolina, for a long time. She was emaciated and frightened, she had skin issues, she may have recently given birth, and she had an old neglected foot injury with a missing toe and toenails, perhaps from getting caught in trap. A kind woman took her in but could not keep her.
On December 1st, RADAR received a request for assistance with Tobie from Mayberry 4 Paws in neighboring Surry County. With no other options for Tobie, Mayberry 4 Paws would take her if we could help with her vetting costs. We agreed and Tobie was safe at last! At her initial vetting on December 7th, luckily, she tested heartworm negative. The vet determined her skin problems were caused by her scratching from fleas and that whatever happened to her foot was not causing her any problems.
On December 20th, while Tobie was being spayed, a mass was discovered and removed. It did not appear to be malignant. She also received additional vet care and had dental work done. We were told this about Tobie: “She is a curious, affectionate girl. She loves to give out kisses. She knows the ‘sit’ command. She enjoys car rides. Her ‘Aunt Karen’ got her an expensive chew toy but she isn’t much of a chewer; however, she does enjoy her new Kong filled with peanut butter!” Oh, and there’s a story behind Tobie’s name. She was rescued shortly after the RADAR co-founder’s had to put their senior boy Toby to sleep (he was in heart failure). So the good folks at Mayberry 4 Paws told us that they would like to name their new rescue Tobie in honor of Toby! Click here to view more photos of Tobie.
RADAR paid $200 towards Tobie’s vetting, dental care and spaying costs.
