Toby is thirty-seven pounds of fluffy fur and affection. This five-year-old Poodle mix arrived as a stray on January 27th at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Toby’s adorableness both in features and personality attracted attention, but prospective adopters and rescues were scared off by his heartworm positive diagnosis and the high cost of treatment for heartworms.
To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to rescue Toby if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, passed the word along to RADAR on February 10th. She asked if we could help Toby. We agreed to assist, and on February 25th Toby finished his heartworm treatment.
“Toby is completely house-trained and definitely an inside dog,” Susan said. “He is very polite meeting all sizes of dogs and friendly with them. He bonds quickly and easily. He enjoys being groomed and brushed. Toby is a great car rider and loves treats. His energy level is well-suited to a retiree or retired couple.” Toby is eager to find his new home where he can live a life as a pampered, healthy pet. Be sure to view more photos in Toby’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Toby’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $226.
