Tommaso, a three-year-old Bully Breed mix, was originally named Moose when he arrived at the Clarendon County Animal Control shelter in South Carolina on May 15th. Perhaps he was given the name Moose for his large sixty-pound size. A stray, no one called to claim this handsome boy with hazel eyes and a coat of many colors: gray, blue, silver, white and cream. Despite his size, Tommaso was very gentle. What wasn’t so gentle were the heartworms raging in his heart. Tommaso would need a rescue to pull him from the shelter, but how would cash-strapped rescues pay for the heartworm medical treatment?
Suruluna Animal Rescue in New York wanted to save Tommaso, but needed help with his heartworm treatment costs. The rescue requested RADAR’s help on June 25th. We agreed to help him the very next day! Tommaso had pre-heartworm treatment testing and x-rays on July 31st and had his back-to-back heartworm treatments on August 1st and 2nd.
“Tommaso is very sweet and affectionate,” the rescue told us. “He loves people and is very good around other dogs. He is awesome around children. He is house-trained and crate-trained, although he tries to get out of being in his crate if he can! Tommaso is an adult, but still is fun, playful and joyous like a puppy. Tommaso would make a great addition to a loving family!” Be sure to view more photos in Tommaso’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Tommaso’s testing, x-ray and heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $341.
UPDATE! Tommaso has been adopted!
