Top of the morning to you! My name is Topper, and I’m a five-year-old Bully Breed mix. I won’t spend any time beating around the bush–I’ve had a rough life. I spent years basically on my own, being chained outside and not being well taken care of. Years of neglect left me tired, hungry and emaciated. But even though times were tough, I didn’t let it get me down. I knew that one day things would change. Eventually, as part of a neglect case, my owner admitted that he couldn’t take care of me, and so I was taken to the Smyth County Animal Shelter in Virginia on May 7th.
But I quickly realized the shelter was no place for me to stay. I wanted a real home like other lucky dogs. Being a bit older and my breed mix did not help my chances of getting adopted or rescued. Little did I know at the time that efforts were underway by City Dogs Rescue in Washington, DC to help me. On May 17th, the rescue asked a group called RADAR if they could cover some of my vet costs. And they did just that! The very next day I had my initial vetting done. On May 31st, I was neutered and had some skin tags removed.
On June 23rd, I was transported to the rescue. They even found a foster home for me! I am now well on my way to finding my forever home. I want folks to know that I’m a very sweet and gentle fellow. I love humans, even young kids, and enjoy canine companionship! Walk? Yes! I love daily walks in the great outdoors! One thing I insist on is getting just a bite of cheese as a bedtime treat! RADAR paid $200 towards Topper’s initial vetting, neutering and skin surgery costs.
