All sad and alone, with his owners unknown, was the plight of Tyrone. This three-year-old Boxer mix was brought to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina by animal control on August 9th. Tyrone lingered at the shelter, becoming increasingly at risk. It didn’t help that he was heartworm positive. By mid-September, with the shelter overflowing, Tyrone ended up on the shelter’s PTS (Put To Sleep) list.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the volunteers with the Darlington County Humane Society, a rescue was found for Tyrone! One Life to Live Adoption and Rescue in Pennsylvania agreed to take Tyrone if his heartworm treatment costs could be covered. RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society volunteers, Susan Blakeney, urgently reached out to us on September 23rd for our help. In turn, we urgently appealed to our supporters. Within a few hours all the necessary funds were raised!
Tyrone was scheduled to have his heartworm treatment done on October 8th; however, he was too underweight. After gaining weight, he was able to receive his treatment on November 5th. Susan shared this us this about Tyrone: “He is very sociable with people, and greets other dogs with a playful stance. Tyrone has a cheerful and wiggly Boxer personality!” To see more photos of Tyrone, click here.
RADAR paid all of Tyrone’s heartworm treatment costs totaling $279.
