It’s the one and only Una! This sweet three- to four-year-old Lab mix arrived with her two little pups in tow at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on August 8th after the three of them were picked up by animal control. Unfortunately, they were in bad shape. They all had some hair loss that turned out to be mange, and one pup’s body was so compromised that she did not survive. As if that wasn’t enough bad news, Una tested positive for heartworms.
On October 20th, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, Susan Blakeney, requested our assistance for Una. One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania offered to take Una and her surviving pup, Ursella, if Una’s heartworm treatment costs could be covered. We agreed to help, which secured both of their rescue placements! Una received her heartworm treatment on October 23rd.
The shelter volunteers had this to say about Una: “She needs a little help walking on the leash, but is very sweet. She’s good with cats and okay with other dogs, but prefers to snuggle with her person. Una has a typical ‘shelter dog’ personality, which means she’s very grateful for attention. She loves affection, and was known as Miss Snuggles!” To see more photos of Una, click here.
RADAR paid all $209 of the heartworm treatment costs for Una.
