Friday the 13th was a lucky day for Vera! It was on Friday, July 13th when this one-year-old Plott Hound mix, with RADAR’s assistance, got her rescue commitment. Vera had arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on April 2nd after being picked up as a stray by animal control. Testing positive for heartworms kept her in limbo at the shelter.

But then on Friday, July 13th, One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania offered to take Vera. The only obstacle remaining was funding for her heartworm treatment costs. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, immediately asked for our help with Vera. We agreed at once, and Vera’s Friday the 13th turned out to be one of good luck indeed! She received her treatment on August 14th.

We were told this about Vera from her time at the shelter: “She is such a delight to spend time with. She has a spirited, joyful personality. Vera never stops smiling and she never stops wagging her tail! She is so very friendly, engaging, snuggly and loving. Vera is excellent in meeting new dogs. Vera is sure to keep her new home full of love and life!” To see more photos of Vera, click here.

RADAR paid all $290 of the heartworm treatment costs for Vera.
