Vino, a Bully Breed mix, already had more than his fair share of trouble, even though he was only three years old. On January 4th, this sweet black-furred fellow was brought to the Duplin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina as a stray. Not only was he limping with a possible leg injury, but he also was heartworm positive. This boy was so adorable he already had two names: Rocky and Dumpling. But his sweetness couldn’t save him from his health issues and a crowded shelter.
On January 7th, Anna Cilento, Founder and Director of Suruluna Animal Rescue in New York State, sought RADAR’s help for Vino. He was on the euthanasia list for the very next day. Anna wanted to save Vino, but needed assistance with medical costs for Vino, including x-rays and heartworm treatment. We immediately agreed to help him. Vino was neutered and had x-rays on February 15th. His heartworm treatment was done on February 16th and 17th. The veterinarian determined that Vino’s deformed leg was either from an old injury or a birth defect. Since he walked and played without problems, it would be better to not have surgery.
How did he get the name Vino? When he arrived in New York, his rescue decided to call him Vino! “He is a very, very sweet dog,” Anna indicated. “He’s a bit shy and fearful, but in general comfortable with the people he knows. He is very clean and well behaved around the house, and he seems to like other dogs and calmer people. He was very happy to be out of the shelter and in a home.” Click here to view more photos of Vino.
RADAR paid all of Vino’s neutering, x-rays and heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $346.
