No, this is not Violet, the Dowager Countess Grantham of Downton Abbey fame. But this is Violet, the Darlington Dog Dame with the same name! This two-year-old Border Collie mix arrived as a stray at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on January 3rd. Everyone thought such a stunning dog like Violet would be quickly reclaimed, but no one came for her. Being both a black dog and heartworm positive, there was no adopter or rescue interest either.

On January 21st, Almost Home Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Violet. However, they could only do so if her heartworm treatment costs could be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, contacted us the same day for our help. We immediately agreed to help. Violet was now safe!

Violet received her heartworm treatment on February 11th. Susan shared this with us about Violet: “She’s a very, very gentle, soft spoken and polite lady!” This Violet sounds a bit more genteel than Downton’s Violet Crawley! Click here to view more photos of Violet.

RADAR paid all of Violet’s heartworm treatment costs totaling $244.

UPDATE! All funds for Violet have been raised! Thank you!
