Who would come to the aid of Wade? This two-year-old Shepherd-Labrador Retriever-Boxer blend was picked up as a stray by animal control on July 11th. Wade then made his way to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. Usually an affable and affectionate dog like Wade would be quickly rescued or adopted. But that would be delayed for Wade because he tested heartworm positive.
On August 15th, Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania expressed interest in taking Wade. However, to do so the cost of his heartworm treatment costs needed to be covered. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, knew just what to do. She requested our help and we agreed. Wade had his heartworm treatment done on September 20th.
“Wade is as smart as a tack,” Susan told us. “He can sit and shake hands on command. His very friendly, calm and gentle nature should make him a good match for a family with children. He enjoys the company of other dogs too. This dashing, silly, lovable snuggle-bug is eager to find a family to share all the love that he has to give!” To see more photos of Wade, click here.
RADAR paid all of Wade’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $250.
