Wesley is a daddy from Darlington! This three-year-old Pit Bull mix was surrendered by his owner to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter on September 25th. Wesley’s pups, Wes and Weslyn, were also surrendered with him that day. While Wesley’s pups were taken to a foster home, Wesley was left behind at the shelter. He tested heartworm positive after arriving at the shelter and his fate seemed to be sealed on November 14th, when he and five other heartworm positive dogs were placed on the shelter’s put to sleep for November 17th.
On November 14th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for our help with Wesley. RADAR agreed to assist with his heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On November 24th, Virginia Paws for Pits agreed to take Wesley. He received his heartworm treatment on December 16th.
Susan had only good words to say about Wesley, “He has a big happy smile. He loves to snuggle and give hugs, and he is happy to slather your face with kisses if you will allow him. Wesley was a huge favorite at the shelter. He’s a fun, well-balanced fellow. While he pulled a bit at first when I took him for a walk, he settled down pretty well once into the walk. When we stopped for a break, he was happy to pick a spot in the shade and just chill with me!” Click here to see more photos of Wesley.
RADAR paid all of the heartworm treatment costs for Wesley, totaling $275.
