Whitney

It’s been a long, long road for Whitney, but she hopes to see the end of it soon, with hopes for a forever home. A five-year-old Hound mix, she arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina way back on May 7th, 2019. She was brought in by a community member as a stray, and tested heartworm positive upon arrival at the shelter. Luckily for Whitney, she was taken in by a foster who gave her love and an inside home. But in the meantime she also developed a mass under her chin. Both health issues needed to be dealt with before a rescue would consider Whitney.

To Love A Canine Rescue in Pennsylvania had a place for Whitney, but not the funds to treat her health issues. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for our help for her mass to be removed and her heartworms treated. RADAR agreed to assist. Whitney had her mass removed and biopsied on June 29th, with heartworm treatment following after her recovery. The great news is that her mass was benign!

Whitney’s foster says she is a sweet, mellow girl. She has medium-energy and enjoys going for walks with all the sniffing possibilities and riding in cars. She gets along well with other dogs and likes playtime with another polite dog. A chew bone is preferred to toys. Whitney loves snuggling on the couch next to her person. She spends much of the day napping. Whitney would love to have a person who is home most of the day as she gets anxious when left home alone and like so many strays, gets scared during thunderstorms. Whitney is a sweet dog who gets along with everyone. Be sure to view more photos in Whitney’s gallery.

RADAR paid all of Whitney’s mass surgery, biopsy and heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $709.
