Winn Dixie

“There ain’t no way you can hold onto something that wants to go,” Kate DiCamillo wrote in her novel, Because of Winn Dixie. This three-year-old Terrier mix named Winn Dixie decided that she was ready for a new life when she broke free of the chain she’d lived on. When she went to the home of one of the owner’s relatives, the relative called animal control, who then contacted the owner. He said he didn’t want to take Winn Dixie, and on August 9th, she ended up at the Martin County Animal Shelter in North Carolina with the threat of being euthanized. Unfortunately, she was also heartworm positive.

On August 14th, Jackie Stanley with Rainbow Animal Rescue in North Carolina asked for RADAR’s help. If we could provide assistance for the cost of Winn Dixie’s basic vetting and heartworm treatment, they could pull her from the shelter. We agreed, and she was saved on August 15th! Winn Dixie got her heartworm treatment on September 13th.

Jackie described Winn Dixie as super friendly and pretty. “She is a little under socialized but very sweet. She needs a new life,” she told us. Click here to view more photos of Winn Dixie.

RADAR paid $250 towards Winn Dixie’s heartworm treatment costs.
