Hi, I’m Xena! I’m a Lab mix, and I’m somewhere between two and three years old. My last owner surrendered me to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on November 8th. Even though I was sad that they wanted to give me away, I knew that I had to be strong and stay positive so that I could find a great new home. I had a couple of big obstacles standing in my way though, including being a black dog and testing positive for heartworms.
Peppertree Rescue in New York offered to pull me from the shelter, provided that my heartworm treatment was taken care of. I was so happy when I learned that there was an organization called RADAR that might be able to fund my costly treatment and get me one step closer to a new life. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, reached out to them for help, and they said they could assist with the costs. I got my treatment on January 7th!
I’ve been described as an approachable, laid-back girl who just wants to spend time with people. I’m so grateful to have a second chance at life, and I’m really excited to spend time with a family who will love me as much as I’ll love them. Be sure to view more photos of me in my gallery.
RADAR paid all $278 of the heartworm treatment costs for Xena.
UPDATE! All funds for Xena have been raised! Thank you!
