The request was clear: “You hafa help Yafa!” A five to six-year-old Shepherd-Hound mix, Yafa was one of several dogs from a hoarding and neglect case. She arrived at the Chesterfield County Animal Services shelter in South Carolina on February 3rd. As if her past life wasn’t bad enough, Yafa tested heartworm positive. After two months at this rural and overcrowded shelter, Yafa was placed on the shelter’s euthanasia list.
On April 5th Lulu’s Rescue in Pennsylvania contacted us about Yafa. They would take Yafa if they could get financial help for her heartworm treatment. Yafa already had a foster offer to keep her during her heartworm treatment. We agreed to help, and Yafa was safe! She received her heartworm treatment on May 5th.
The following was shared with us about Yafa: “She is a very timid and sweet gal. She is great with other dogs and gentle with people.” One of the shelter volunteers said, “I really do love this dog. Every time I went there to take her out of the kennel, she just wanted to be loved so much that it broke my heart.” Her foster mom told us, “She’s just yummy! She loves to snuggle and be loved!” Click here to view more photos of Yafa.
RADAR paid the $214 remaining balance for Yafa’s heartworm treatment costs.
UPDATE! Yafa has been adopted! From Francine with LuLu’s Rescue, “She’s a real heart stealer! What a sweet, sweet little girl! She went to her new home which is a nursing home/assisted living facility where she lit up the faces of so many people. I wish you could have been there to see it. It was truly beautiful how these people were full of joy to meet her and to know that she would be living with them. So many of them had animals over the course of their lives and could no longer care for themselves no less a dog or cat. She will be a true blessing to so many, offering comfort and love. She is a beautiful girl inside and out. Thank you so much for helping save her life so she could impact the lives of others.”
UPDATE! All funds for Yafa have been raised! Thank you!
