While Yeller was not quite a cellar dweller, she lived her entire life in a small, cramped kennel with three other dogs. On September 26th, as part of a neglect investigation, the four dogs were seized by animal control. They were taken to the Tucker County Animal Shelter in West Virginia. To avoid hefty fines, the owner entered into a plea agreement that granted the shelter full rights to the dogs. Nine years old and a Lab-Shepherd mix, Yeller was in the worst condition with severe dermatitis and a tumor.

To better enable Yeller to get a rescue commitment or an adopter, shelter manager Cathy Parsons asked for RADAR’s help, and we agreed. Yeller received her initial vetting and began her skin care treatment on October 5th. She was spayed and had the tumor removal surgery on October 10th. Fortunately, the biopsy indicated that the tumor was benign.

“Despite her kenneled life,” Cathy told us, “Yeller has the most pleasant, charming personality. When she got her first medicated bath for her dermatitis, this sweet girl acted like she didn’t want to get out of the tub, while enjoying all the lathering, attention and soft voices surrounding her! Yeller really is a super great dog with so much love!” Click here to view more photos of Yeller.

RADAR paid all of Yeller’s vetting, spaying, tumor surgery and biopsy costs, which totaled $422.

UPDATE! Yeller has been adopted, and has a new name – Belle!

Post-Adoption Update! Shelter manager Cathy Parsons shared this with us: “Belle’s new adoptive mom, Patsy, was so moved by Belle’s sweet demeanor. Even though a senior dog who was overlooked by many, Belle has such a zest for life. Patsy applied to work at the shelter and was hired! Not only will I get to see Belle regularly, but Patsy hopes to be a voice and advocate for other seniors who come into the shelter.”

UPDATE! All funds for Yeller have been raised! Thank you!
