Yoda

In creating Yoda for Star Wars, the artist based Yoda’s face partially on Einstein’s! As for this Yoda, we have a theory as to why his name is based on the Einstein-inspired Yoda – it’s all about the ears! A one to two-year-old Mountain Cur mix, Yoda was surrendered to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina on February 13th. His family’s house was destroyed by fire, and the family couldn’t keep Yoda and two other family dogs. They hoped all three dogs would find good homes. While the other two dogs quickly secured rescues, Yoda lingered on. It didn’t help that he was heartworm positive. Yoda was placed on the shelter’s “put to sleep” list for March 25th.

On March 21st, RADAR provided an offer to assist with Yoda’s heartworm treatment as an incentive for a rescue to take him. Yoda got a reprieve when no less than three potential adopters came forth. Unfortunately, no adoption materialized. Meanwhile, on April 7th, Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, had some wonderful news: One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania agreed to take Yoda! He had his heartworm treatment done on April 28th.

“Yoda made lots of new friends at the shelter,” Susan told us. “He loved to go for long walks with volunteers. By the end of the walk he liked to roll over for a belly rub in the grass. He also liked to meet new dogs every time he went for a walk. He almost got to meet a cat, but got way too excited!” Click here to view more photos of Yoda.

RADAR paid all of Yoda’s heartworm treatment costs, totaling $281.
