Yukon was over 3,000 miles from the Yukon Territory in Canada when he arrived at the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. A two-year-old Shepherd mix, he arrived as a stray on February 6th. This tender-hearted fellow unfortunately had a heart full of heartworms. Could Yukon find a rescue willing to take him with the high expense of treating his heartworms?
Home At Last Dog Rescue in Pennsylvania could take Yukon north if his heartworms were treated first. Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society Rescue, asked for our help on March 7th. We agreed and Yukon completed his heartworm treatment on March 17th.
Yukon was overwhelmed and shy when he first arrived at the shelter. Once he settled in, the shelter staff was able to see how calm, warm, wonderful and delightful a dog he is. Susan met Yukon and said, “He is gentle and sweet. He is very polite when he meets other dogs. Yukon’s ideal home would give him time to relax and adjust. He loves attention from both children and adults. Yukon would do well with a kind and confident playmate to match his temperament.” Be sure to view more photos in Yukon’s gallery.
RADAR paid all of Yukon’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $261.
