Zen isn’t exactly a perfect fit for his name. He is a go-with-the-flow kind of dog but definitely has a goofy side. This one-and-a-half-year-old Labrador Retriever-Shepherd mix was originally pulled from a high-kill shelter in Georgia by an independent rescuer. She asked the Mary Ann Morris Animal Society (MAMAS) shelter in Bamberg County South Carolina if they could help Zen. MAMAS accepted Zen on April 13th. Sadly, this boy turned out to be heartworm positive. He would need to be treated in order to find a rescue or adopter.

Ruthie Rish with MAMAS found a rescue that wanted to help Zen find his forever home but first needed his heartworms to be treated. Wet Nose Rescue in Pennsylvania wanted to step up for Zen, so Ruthie asked RADAR on April 27th if we could seal the rescue deal by covering Zen’s heartworm medical costs. We said “yes,” and Zen had his treatment on April 29th and 30th.

“Zen is very friendly and loves making new friends,” Ruthie told us. “He has all the makings of a great family dog and just wants to be where the action is – most of all, with people.” Zen is ready to begin his exciting new life with appropriate mellow times now that he is healthy. RADAR paid all of Zen’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $270.
