If this 8-year-old Boxer could tell a story about a cat in a hat, we could call him Dr. Zeus! On June 10th, animal control brought Zeus to the Mercer County Animal Shelter in West Virginia. He was one of 11 dogs seized by animal control in a hoarding situation. Betty came from the same home. As an older and larger dog, Zeus was very much at risk in a kill shelter. As the weeks passed, Zeus ended up on the shelter’s urgent list.
In response to a posting about Zeus by the Mercer County Volunteers, on June 19th RADAR provided an assistance offer as an incentive for a rescue to take him. On July 3rd, Big Dogs Rescue, a rescue in West Virginia that focuses on Boxers, agreed to take Zeus!
On July 16th, Zeus had a thorough vet exam and extensive testing done. Two cancerous tumors were found. Blood tests, x-rays and an MRI all showed no signs that the cancer had spread. Other than the two tumors and a possible bladder infection, Zeus appeared to be relatively healthy. During the exam he had a slight seizure, which the vet thought might be stress related. The tumors will be removed; while their is no question that they are cancerous, the vet is very hopeful that it can all be removed. Meanwhile, Zeus is getting both bladder infection and anti-seizure medications. Click here to see more photos of Zeus.
RADAR paid $200 towards the July 16th vet care treatment for Zeus.
