Zoey is a Greek name meaning ‘life.’ However, life, in general, had not been so kind to Zoey recently. This petite Boxer mix was picked up by animal control as a stray on March 8th and taken to the Darlington County Humane Society shelter in South Carolina. This four- to five-year-old girl was underweight, had obviously born several litters of puppies, and was heartworm positive. Zoey needed some good meals and heartworm treatment before she could be rescued or adopted.
Susan Blakeney, RADAR’s liaison with the Darlington County Humane Society, asked for RADAR’s help on March 10th. Zoey had rescue interest with One Life to Live Rescue and Adoption in Pennsylvania, but the rescue needed help with the cost of heartworm treatment. We said we would help Zoey and less than a week later, on March 16th, she completed her heartworm treatment.
Zoey is sweet, friendly and walks well on a leash. Susan said this about Zoey: “Surely she had a family at one time who loved her. She sits and waits patiently for cues from her handler. She loves to sit at your feet and cuddle. She meets other dogs politely with no formal introduction needed. She is quiet, calm and appreciative of attention from her person.” Zoey is waiting for life to be good again. Click here to view more photos of Zoey.
RADAR paid all of Zoey’s heartworm treatment costs, which totaled $249.
