Zoey turned out to have captured the heart of a loving person, but her road to get there wasn’t an easy one. She arrived at the Fairfield County Animal Shelter in South Carolina on October 10th was an owner surrender, after his insurance company threatened to drop his coverage. It also wasn’t known at the time that this three-year-old Bully Breed-Great Dane mix was pregnant. Zoey also tested heartworm positive. Being a member of a maligned breed, pregnant and heartworm positive were all barriers to Zoey’s future health and happiness.

On December 20th, Cas-Cad-Nac Animal Rescue and Training in Vermont requested RADAR’s help for Zoey’s heartworm treatment. Zoey had given birth in the shelter to five puppies and the rescue wanted to secure Zoey’s and her puppies’ safety. We agreed to help with Zoey’s treatment costs, so that she and her canine family could be saved. Zoey completed her heartworm treatment on February 24th and 25th.

When Zoey arrived in Vermont, she had a forever home waiting for her. Zoey’s new Dad is a disabled veteran. She has two feathered siblings and her chair is right beside their cage and near Dad. She has the run of the house and a large fenced-in yard to run around in. All her new Dad has to do is say her name and Zoey is right beside him. She walks calmly beside him and always takes care to give him the walking space that he needs. Zoey is extremely happy with her new Dad, and RADAR is so happy to have helped her out on her journey. RADAR paid $250 towards the heartworm treatment costs for Zoey.
